The Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham and the Peace and Social Concerns Committee of Durham Friends Meeting requests your faithful partnership.

A Prayer Vigil to honor the life of William Earnest "Hood Hop" Davis will be held Saturday, October 11, 5:00 PM, corner of Scout Drive and West Piedmont Avenue.

Mr. Davis, 39 years old, was fatally stabbed during an argument on April 12, 2008. He was found lying partly in the roadway at West Piedmont Avenue and Scout Drive. Mr. Davis was well known and much liked within the Durham community. Vigil co-leaders will be Reverend Jimmie Hawkins, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church and Reverend Marilyn Hedgepath, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church. We invite everyone to offer their presence and prayers.

The purpose of the prayer vigils for homicide victims is to bring people together to honor the lives of the victims, to offer comfort to the families, friends and neighbors and to pray for peace and healing. The vigil also will allow those affected an opportunity to have their voices heard and their grief acknowledged, and publicly state that such violence is unacceptable.

The vigils are coordinated by the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham, Parents of Murdered Children, and Durham Congregations in Action. For additional information please contact Anna Lee Mosley at 919-641-3276 or nonviolentdurham@gmail.com
